          The cylinder 3 injectors on this engine are positioned under the intake manifold, so inspecting them isn’t as simple as lifting a cover. By using a mirror to see inside and manually reaching into the area, we verified:

&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • The injector plug was connected 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • The injector felt properly seated 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So if everything looked okay, why the injector circuit code then? 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          A Look Into the Vehicle’s History Raised More Questions
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Per the vehicle’s service history on Carfax, the fuel injectors had been replaced on October 1st, 2025, just months before it rolled into our shop. But why? 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That’s a red flag worth investigating, as injectors usually aren’t replaced unless there’s a misfire, contamination, or electrical issue. Before jumping into expensive repairs, we contacted the shop that previously worked on the vehicle to see if we could get some valuable information. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Turns out, only cylinder 5’s injector had been replaced at that visit. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Why was cylinder 5 replaced then, and now cylinder 3 is failing? It could possibly have been a coincidence, but with what we were about to find, the bigger picture of this vehicle’s issue started coming together. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Digging Deeper: Intake Removal &amp;amp; Electrical Diagnosis 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Given the codes and location, our next step was to remove the intake manifold to properly inspect cylinder 3’s injector and wiring harness. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Our technician had a strong suspicion that the root cause was electrical, not mechanical. Before we proceeded with replacing anything though, we wanted proof. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The Turning Point: Bench Testing With an Injector Tester 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          One of our techs owns professional injector testing and cleaning equipment, even bringing it in from home so we could bench-test this injector and eliminate all doubt. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Following this, the test confirms that Injector #3 is no good. Despite appearing plugged in and seated correctly from our visual inspection, injector 3 failed during the flow and circuit test. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That gave us the factual evidence needed to make a solid recommendation to the customer. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The Final Recommendation: Fix the Problem And Prevent It From Coming Back
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          After confirming the failure, and reviewing the prior injector history, we contacted the shop that last repaired the vehicle. Their records confirmed that only one injector (cylinder 5) had been replaced previously.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          With cylinder 3 now failed, and the rest of the injectors being the same age, brand, and batch, our recommendation to the customer was to replace the five remaining injectors.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Why? 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • Injectors often fail in clusters based on age, contamination, or electrical conditions. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • Replacing only one at a time leads to repeat visits, repeated labor costs, and ongoing misfires.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • The intake manifold removal is a significant labor operation, meaning doing it once is more cost-effective than repeating it every time another injector fails. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          • Confirmed failure of injector 3 suggests the others are not far behind. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          And now, with clear test data, the customer can see exactly why. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The Takeaway: Diagnostics Save Money

          This job is the perfect example of why proper in-depth testing beats guesswork. The codes pointed us in the right direction, but the real confirmation came only after the following steps:

          At the heart of a CVT are two pulleys connected by a specially designed belt or chain, also known as the V-belt. One pulley connects to the engine, called the drive pulley, while the other transfers power to the wheels through the driveshaft.  This second pulley is called the driven pulley.  These pulleys can change the diameter by moving their conical halves closer together or further apart.  This effectively creates infinite gear ratios that can be seamlessly altered.

          R12 became the worldwide standard for automotive air conditioning systems, and saw mass adoption by nearly every manufacturer.

          R134a emerged as a potential replacement for the old R12 standard in the 1990s, touting increased environmental safety as the CFC formulation had been replaced by a similar-performing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC).

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          While HFCs do not react and degrade the ozone layer like it’s R12 predecessor, it was discovered that R134a still posed danger to the health of the atmosphere. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, R134a refrigerant is a “potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential that is 1,430 times that of CO2.”

          Automakers have since begun to make the change to a new formulation of refrigerant. The European Union required automakers to have made the switch to R1234yf refrigerant as of 2017, while the United States required compliance by 2022.

          R1234yf is the most recent development in automotive refrigerants, and uses a hydrofluoric-olefin formulation rather than CFCs or HFCs. While most manufacturers have made this switch within the last five years, R1234yf systems can be found in some vehicles as early as the 2014 model year.
